The one thing I love about living in a big city is all the choices of dining you have. Once a year the month of August turns into Restaurant Weeks. One of the best ways to try new restaurants is dining out during this month! For a set price of $35 for dinner you get regular size portions at a very discounted rate and restaurants donate $5 per dinner sold to the Houston Food Bank. It’s a win win for everyone! You have to be sure you ask for the restaurant week menu when you sit down, because they don’t just hand them out when you can pay full price on the regular menu.

Today we visited Perry’s Steakhouse. We have eaten here before and in my opinion they are good, but there’s other better steak places out there. We happen to love their Lobster Bisque $8.95, so we split a bowl of that. They serve the bisque tableside and I can’t get enough of this thick, rich and creamy bisque.

I chose the Field Green, Pear & Candied Pecan Salad ($8.95 regular price). I really enjoyed the julienned apples and spiced candied pecans. They are similar to the ones I make for my salads at home.

D chose the Caesar Salad ($7.95 regular price), which how could you go wrong with that? Loved every bite!

For the 2nd course I went with the 8oz Filet Perry ($39.95 regular price) (Topped with jumbo lump crabmeat, herb-garlic butter and served with steamed asparagus). I’m a huge fan of the filet of Oscar, but this was a close runner up. I was glad to see they didn’t skimp on the lump crab as you see in some restaurants.

D chose the Perry´s Famous Pork Chop (Carved tableside, hand selected in the Midwest specifically for Perry´s Steakhouse, this prime chop is cured, roasted, slow-smoked and caramelized, and served with homemade applesauce). This alone is a $29.95 menu item so you can see why I said it’s a heck of a deal! As always really yummy and kind of makes you feel special getting it carved tableside. They also make their own applesauce which is to die for.

We did order an additional side, which is more food than we needed, but we took the leftovers home with half of his pork chop. The Macaroni & Cheese $6.95, while nice and creamy with everything I expect from a mac and cheese, they added too much nutmeg which was a big turn off for me.

As stuffed as we where we still had dessert to come, a Dessert Trio (Vanilla bean crème brulée, Grand Marnier chocolate truffle, and praline cheesecake) and Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter Candy Bar (Milk chocolate peanut butter mousse with a chocolate cookie crust, topped with hot fudge, whipped cream and candied peanuts). Love their trio it’s just enough. The candy bar is just like those frozen Snickers bars just 2 times the size. Oh so good! We had to take half of that home as well.

Overall we saved at least $30 by going during restaurant week and still got their normal full size portions. Heck of a deal!!
